11/08 - We have disabled accounts that expired last month and were not renewed. If your's w as one and you'd like to renew, you may do so here.

11/04 - 5:00 pm EDT sp2 appears to be unavailable and has apparently been so for a while (si nce around noon), we are looking into it and will have it back asap.

10/31 - We have been affected by the storm that struck the North East. Local staff have bee n without power since Saturday afternoon (10/30). This does not affect any services, but it may af fect support response time to helpdesk email. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inc onvienence. Local power companies say they expect power restored by the weekend.

09/26 - We have moved express1 and the tusk proxy server. See below for express1 new DSA ke y.

09/26 - We have begun moving express1. What you will likely notice is a prompt to accept a new DSA key:

74:63:4d:fa:ac:68:a7:87:d0:ff:76:d1:a5:26:c4:4e

We are moving this server to a new machine and datacenter through DNS update. This means both the old and new servers are active and as DNS changes for you, you'll be on the new server. When every one has updated, the old server will be taken offline.

If it goes well you should only notice a DSA key failure and be prompted to replace it with a new o ne (above) when you log in...or that's what we hope, anyway :)

09/22 - In addition to the tusk proxy we will also be replacing one of the SSH servers (expr ess1) this weekend. As with the tusk proxy we expect minimal downtime.

09/21 - This coming weekend (Sat 24th into Sun 25th) we will be moving the tusk proxy to a n ew machine and datacenter. This affects our standard proxy as well as CGI proxy. It will not affe ct any SSH tunnel servers nor VPN servers. The move should, for the most part, be unnoticeable, ex cept for a minor downtime where DNS updates with the changes. This is being done to resolve the re cent instability of this server. Questions to helpdesk@cotse.net.

09/15 - 7:00 pm EST - We have completed our emergency maintenance for e-mail.

09/15 - 6:15 pm EST - We are currently performing some maintenance on the e-mail. This may result in very brief periods where you might see an error connecting. They won't even last a minut e, so feel free to try again. We should be done shortly.

09/14 - It looks like we'll get at least 24 hours notice before our provider for our Chicago VPN server null routes it on the next Hollywood complaint:

"As previously mentioned, we may have to suspend / terminate your service if reports continue. Howe ver, I realize that you may feel unsafe to continue service if you don't get informed first, so we' ll make sure you'll be provided at least 24 hours before suspension/termination instead of no notif ication at all (that was previously stated)."

They did, however, say that they accepted our actions on the latest complaint and closed the ticket . We'll keep you updated.

Please note that this only affects the one VPN server (Chicago), our other VPN servers both US and EU are not at risk and should we lose Chicago we will find another provider for it that actually un derstands the DMCA (specifically Title 17-Chapter 5-\xa7 512(a)).

09/14 - We have been informed by our provider that because our VPN server (vpn1 or chicago) has received a number of DMCA complaints (all of them from Hollywood, all of them over TV shows, an d all of them properly handled by us as per DMCA requirements) that:

"we have to ask you to terminate the specific service or take proactive actions that will eliminate reports from now on. If reports persist, we may suspend & terminate your service without any further warning or notific ation."

Seeing as this is a conduit, and there is no technical way to stop people from fil esharing so it is impossible to be proactive and we can only be reactive, it appears we are going t o lose this server on the very next Hollywood DMCA complaint sans any proof at all. No proof of in fringement, no proof of continued infringement, no proof at all, just simply because Hollywood comp lained.

We will keep you updated.

Please note that the sharing of copyrighted materials which you do not have explicit permission to share is against our AUP. If you are doing such, please immediately cease.

09/08 - We have disabled accounts that expired last month and were not renewed. If your acc ount was one of these and you wish to renew, you may do so here.

09/02 - There is a new batch of spam going around pretending to be e-mail administrator and asking for username and password. If any mail ever asks for your password, for any reason at all, it's fake and not from us. Don't answer it.

09/02 - 7:45 am EDT - Well, the first rebuild lasted all of 10 minutes before going into another ha rdware failure. It, too, has been resolved and VPN2 is back up again for use.

09/02 - 6:00 am EDT - New drives have been installed and VPN2 has been rebuilt and is available for use.

09/02 - 3:30 am EDT - vpn2 is having emergency maintenance performed. It has experienced a drive a rray failure. This may take up to 24 hours to rebuild, but we hope to have it back sooner. Please switch to one of our other VPN servers until we get it resolved. We will have it back asap.

08/28 - The storm has passed us without incident.

08/26 - We appear to be in the direct path of hurricane Irene. This will not affect dedicated serv ers, proxies, or webhosting, but it may effect the e-mail for Cotse.Net. If you are unable to reach our w ebmail/e-mail this weekend this may be the cause and rest assured we'll be back asap.

08/22 - 07:45 EDT - vpn2 is back.

08/22 - 04:00 EDT - When it rains, it pours. vpn2 is also currently out o f commission with a system failure (it's not old, just one of those things). We' ll have it back asap. Workaround: use one of the other VPN servers until vpn2 is back. Questions to helpdesk.

08/22 - We are having some hardware difficulty with the tusk proxy (it's o ld, we were pushing it). We recommend that you avoid using it in favor of one of our other proxies while we are replacing it (if you have questions, mail them to helpdesk at cotse.net).

While it should be "mostly" available, the tusk proxy will experience periods whe re it is not available during this process. The entire replacement is expected to take 24 - 48 hours to complete, but may take as long as 72 hours if we run into unexpected troubles.

06/29 - VPN users: Please note that we have released new VPN servers. VP N users may use any VPN server they choose. OpenVPN users can download new softw are from our OpenVPN page. PPTP VPN users can enter chicago.cotse.net, denver.co tse.net, and zlin.cotse.net to their list of available servers to use. More to c ome.

05/10 - RIP Arkiver, you'll be missed by all of us. You were part of the f amily.

08/18 - 9 pm EDT - Our provider changed routing and everything appears to be once again working for sending with webmail via the SSH Tunnels.

08/18 - Update - The issue with being unable to send via webmail when using one of the ssh tunnels (it does not affect VPN) h as been pinpointed to be a provider related issue. We have an open ticket with them and will update as we know more. In the meanti me, a workaround is to add www.cotse.net to the No proxy for or proxy bypass list in your browser proxy settings.

08/10 - Accounts that expired last month have been disabled. If your account is one and you wish to renew, you may do so here.

07/29 - Express1 is back up now.

07/29 - We are experiencing issues with the SSH server Express1, we hope to have it resolved asap.

06/22 - Our provider is doing some maintenance which may cause temporary outages for some people. This affects only webma il and SMTP; all other services (POP, IMAP, proxies, webhosting) are not affected.

06/17 - We have updated our deployable Tunnelblick for MAC OSX users. This update includes Tunnelblick 3.1.7 and all our latest OpenVPN servers. VPN subscribers can download it here.

03/28 - 5:00 pm EDT - Express1 is now back online.

03/28 - 2:30 pm EDT - Apparently we lost the motherboard on express1, working on it and will have it back asap. If you require immediate access to ssh tunnels ple ase contact helpdesk and we'll add you to another server.

03/28 - 1:30 pm EDT - We lost the power supply on Express1. It has been repla ced and should return shortly.

03/10 - We have disabled accounts that expired last month and were not renewed . If you are suddenly unable to log in, this may be why. You can renew your account by going here.

02/26 - Our provider had a brief network issue last night that affected the pr oxies and vpn servers. All is fine now. If you are unable to pass data through the VPN try disconnecting and reconnecting.

02/24 - Earlier speed issues with the incoming mail, imap and pop have been re solved.

01/26 - 8:00 am EST - The packetloss has subsided and things are currently functioning normally.
< BR> 01/26 - We are still experiencing packetloss issues late night into am EST for pop/imap. Both we and our provider are aware of this and they assure us it is being worked on and they will have a resolution "so on". If you are currently unable to connect to pop or imap, this is why.

01/22 - Update: Telco claims to have found the problem link where the signal is occassionally dropping, they report to expect a resolution within the next 24-48 hours. There may be brief period s where pop and imap are unavailable while this fix is being made, no other services should be affect ed.

01/21 - The ice storm appears to have let water into one of the telco's nodes which results in high packetloss at night when the temperature drops. They are working on this and we are being prom ised that it will be resolved soon. In the mean time, imap and pop are sluggish to unavailable as a result tonight (EST). All other services are unaffected.

01/20 - Due to a two day ice storm our mail network has had some periodic outages and periods of sluggishness resulting from high packet loss. If you have had difficulty accessing it, this is wh y. The storm is over and cleanup is underway, so things should begin to settle. The local telco say s they are working on the node that is causing us troubles.

01/06 - We have updated the SSL certificate for mail.cotse.net (yes, again). Due to issues with our normal CA we were forced to use another for the last update. That CA was GoDaddy.

It turns out that many e-mail apps and a few browsers had issues with trust for the GoDaddy signed certificate and thus issued scary warnings. These frightening alerts tend to make potential customers understandably nervous, not a good thing.

So we went back to our regular CA for another certificate to replace that one to resolve those scary warnings. This change shouldn't actually be noticeable to you. We should also be done with certificate changes for a while.

As always, you can verify our certificate fingerprints here.

01/01 - We'd like to wish everyone a healthy, happy, and prosperous new year!

12/29 - We have updated the certificate for www.cotse.net. This includes smtps and nntps.

The SSL certificate for mail.cotse.net has been updated. This includes imaps, pop3s, and smtps.

Some mail clients may require you to manually approve the certificate change.

The certificate for tusk.cotse.com has also been upgraded. This includes the CGI proxy and standard proxy via stunnel.

Those still using stunnel with our standard proxy and using verify will need to download our new certificate.
