PPTP VPN OSX10.6.x

Start System Preferences, then open Network under Internet & Wireless:

Next, click the '+' in the left frame to add a new connection:

Select VPN from the Interface droplist ,then PPTP from the VPN Type droplist, and give
your connection a name – then click Create:

Now, highlight your new connection in the left pane. Then, in the main window, leave the configuration set to 'default',
and enter the server name and account name as given to you by the helpdesk. Select 'Maximum (128-bit only)'
in the encryption box, then click 'Authentication Settings' :

Select 'Password', enter your VPN password, then click 'OK':

Next, click on the 'Advanced' button, and under the 'Options' tab, select the 'Send all traffic
over VPN connection' – and set the 'Disconnect if idle' time if that's how you want to use it. Click
'OK':

Finally, check the 'Show VPN Status in Menu Bar' checkbox, and then 'Apply'. Simply click 'Connect'
to use it:

You will now have a status indicator in your menu bar:

… which will indicate the connection time. If you click on the bar graph, you can connect/disconnect your session
from the drop down menu. |
